A mission-driven nonprofit arts organization is seeking an Interim Director of Human Resources to join the team on a temporary basis. This highly visible leadership role offers the opportunity to partner with executive leadership, guide organizational strategy, and support a collaborative, people-first culture. 

Who You Are 

  • You have 10+ years of HR leadership experience in a senior HR Generalist, HR Business Partner, or Director-level role  
  • Strong background in employee relations, performance management, workplace investigations, and HR compliance  
  • Experience advising executives and managers on organizational and people-related matters  
  • Knowledge of benefits administration, workers' compensation, unemployment, and PEO environments (TriNet experience is a plus)  
  • Passion for fostering inclusive, equitable workplace cultures through DEI initiatives  
  • Union and/or nonprofit experience is a strong plus  
  • Collaborative, adaptable, and comfortable balancing strategic leadership with day-to-day HR operations  

What You'll Do 

  • Partner with executive leadership to align HR strategy with organizational priorities  
  • Advise managers on employee relations, performance management, investigations, and organizational planning  
  • Oversee HR compliance, benefits administration, leave management, workers' compensation, and annual HR processes  
  • Support recruitment, workforce planning, and organizational development initiatives  
  • Champion employee engagement, DEI efforts, and leadership development across the organization  
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to strengthen people practices and support a growing, mission-driven workforce

  • Employee relations matters are handled thoughtfully, fairly, and in compliance with employment laws  
  • HR operations run efficiently while supporting an exceptional employee experience

Pay Rate Range:  $60-65 per hour, based on experience 

Location:  New York, NY – Hybrid
