Training helps everyone keep up with the marketplace
Businesses succeed by marketing and selling their products and services. If the products and services aren’t up to date, they won’t last long.
Say you’re in business of selling real estate. For years, prospective buyers have looked at web sites with multiple images of the properties. If a competitor gets three-dimensional or augmented reality (AR) images, you’ll need to keep up. Clients could feel these images are vastly superior, and go to competitors who have them if you don’t.

Training increases productivity in several different ways. First, employees who are trained on new software will understand how to use it. They’ll be better and very likely quicker when using it. They’ll no longer need to go ask Jane next door how to do a certain function if they’ve been trained.
Second, training can free up the time of other employees and of supervisors. Partially trained people tend to ask a lot of questions of co-workers or supervisors. As a result, their time is taken up answering them. With training, that time can be put to more productive activities.
Training sharpens engagement and focus
Engaged employees tend to be better at their jobs and stay at them longer. Focused employees are also better, and can make suggestions for improvement.
Ultimately, by augmenting engagement and focus, you are saving yourself recruitment and retraining costs for new employees, because you are likely increasing the retention of the people you have.
Training improves weaknesses
If employees genuinely don’t know how to do something, whether it’s performing routine software tasks or keeping up with new digital technology, training will fix insufficient knowledge.
Training will also pinpoint employees who are weak at certain tasks. If they are trained and still subpar in performance, you’ll know lack of knowledge is not the reason. You can then step in and create a plan for improvement, or reassign the employee.
