Our client, a prestigious Midtown law firm, is seeking an experienced Trusts & Estates Department Paralegal to join their team and assist the attorneys in handling the administration of estates and trusts. The candidate will play a crucial role in providing support for estate and trust matters, as well as assisting clients in fulfilling the roles of Executors, Administrators, and Trustees. Thorough knowledge of New York probate procedures is essential, and familiarity with New Jersey probate procedures is desirable.
- Collaborate with attorneys to facilitate the administration of estates and trusts.
- Assist in the preparation and filing of federal and state estate tax returns.
- Evaluate and determine the valuation of assets within each estate and/or trust under administration.
- Review, prepare, and circulate fiduciary accountings.
- Maintain accurate records and calculate commissions payable to fiduciaries and distributions to beneficiaries.
- Engage in frequent communication with clients, providing exceptional service and addressing their concerns.
- Minimum of 6 years of prior experience in trust and estate administration within a law firm.
- Strong knowledge of New York probate procedures and familiarity with New Jersey probate procedures.
- Proficiency in reviewing and interpreting Wills and Trust Agreements.
- Excellent organizational, writing, and communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently under pressure.
- Proficiency in relevant Windows-based computer programs, including FPS (or comparable) Accounting and Tax preparation software,
- Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, HotDocs, and Eval.
- Prior experience preparing Federal and State estate tax returns (Forms 706 and ET-706) is preferred.
