A leading independent Pre-K–12 school in New York City is seeking a Senior Accountant to join the team on a temporary basis. Who You Are
- A detail-oriented professional with a deep understanding of full-cycle accounting and financial reporting
- You hold a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; a CPA designation is a strong plus
- You bring 3–5 years of accounting experience, ideally within an educational institution or nonprofit environment
- Skilled at managing multiple priorities in a deadline-driven setting without compromising accuracy
- A strong communicator who collaborates effectively with colleagues and external partners
- Proficient in Excel (including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and advanced formulas) and comfortable working in Google Workspace and accounting platforms (experience with Veracross or similar systems is a bonus)
- Known for your discretion and ability to handle sensitive financial information with care
What You’ll Do
- Reconcile key balance sheet accounts monthly, including fixed assets, prepaids, and payables/receivables
- Prepare journal entries with thorough documentation and ensure consistency across the general ledger
- Analyze financial data to identify discrepancies and support accurate reporting
- Assist in month-end and year-end close processes, including the preparation of schedules and audit-ready documentation
- Review reconciliations completed by others and contribute to process documentation and improvements
- Generate ad hoc reports and provide analytical support to finance leadership and other departments

- Key reconciliations and journal entries are completed on schedule and with precision

- You are seen as a trusted resource within the finance team and a reliable partner across the organization
Pay Rate Range: $50-55 per hour, based on experience
